Shuppatsuten
出発点:しゅっぱつてん
Required for 8th kyu yellow belt
Shuppatsuten, literally meaning 'Starting Point', was originally a Korean kata. It's name in Korean is ChulBal.
Shuppatsuten is essentially a variation on Taikyoku Shodan, and is the second kata taught in the American Butokukan. The floor pattern is identical, but the difficulty level is substantially greater. Rather than only one stance, Shuppatsuten incorporates three. Of primary focus in this kata is teaching a student to smoothly transition from kôkutsu-dachi (back stance) to zenkutsu-dachi, and a difficult kiba-dachi (horse stance) / mae-geri (front kick) combination, as well as a minor change in rhythm
